LOUISE MARTIN CHEW savours the experience of a vibrant regional gallery in a region better known for its dazzling beaches.

In a recent article about Michael Zavros, subject of The Good Son: works on paper at the Gold Coast City Art Gallery, journalist Matt Condon, whose own novels have scratched away at the brittle surface of the place locals refer to as ‘the Goldy’, suggested “… doesn’t ‘Gold Coast’ and ‘Arts Centre’ present one of the tourist capital’s more amusing oxymorons?
