Australian Art Review is an integrated quarterly magazine and website.
Australian Art Review magazine offers compelling articles and superb images: a celebration of Australian visual arts. aAR seeks to place the visual arts within a broad cultural context, with regular contributions from Australia's finest arts writers, photographers and illustrators. Content includes artist and gallery profiles, exhibition reviews, collecting advice, and the latest in arts news from around Australia.
aAR looks beyond the metropolitan centres, and beyond the conventional art magazine obsession with 'big names', or so-called 'cutting edge' works. In principle, there are no fixed boundaries and no sacred cows.
The aAR website features an extensive selection of artist profiles and exhibition reviews from all over Australia spanning the last five years. Updated weekly, www.artreview.com.au is a wide-ranging resource for local and international art buyers and the art community as a whole.
Australian Art Review editor Stewart White had a “misspent youth” at the National Art School and Sydney College of the Arts. A collector of the bizarre, beautiful and obscure, he has curated and promoted exhibitions as well as convened and promoted awards schemes. As a communications professional of more than 25 years he has consulted to leading cultural institutions, TV networks, major radio networks and publishing groups such as John Fairfax and Australian Consolidated Press.
Deputy Editor Janet Haynes is a freelance writer and editor who needs nine lives to pursue her life interests. She has background in history and philosophy and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and postgraduate Diploma from the University of New South Wales. Though passionate about Australian art and culture, she travels overseas on a regular basis making beelines for galleries, museums and archaeological sites. Long obsessed with the written word she restores balance by immersing herself in the wonders of modernist and contemporary art and architecture. Presently based in Sydney, she has lived and worked in the UK and North America.
